EDable Architecture were asked by the client to simultaneously develop a long term flexible and sustainable vision for the Scheduled Ancient Monument and listed site – whilst also developing speculative proposals for individual opportunities within it. Early days in what we hope will be decade long involvement working on a beautifully rich and sensitive site, but we enjoying a project that has taken inspiration from Sean Tan’s Lost Thing…
The first proposal underway is for a sculptural zinc insertion into the existing brick cottage ruin which the client hopes to use as a holiday home to help fund the ongoing maintenance and development of the site. Careful study and analysis of the existing structures and the sites history have informed the new design which artistically reinterprets existing site features. These include distinctive chimneys, playful skylines, natural materials, unexpected and dramatic views and a richly varied spatial experience.
