Navigating the complexity of community focused design can be challenging, however the rewards in actively engaging local stakeholders and involving them in the design process are substantial. The benefits range from preventing hold-ups in the planning process to providing and conserving community assets for future generations. At EDable we have developed a methodology to help inform this process, which we have implemented on our projects as a step towards improving our approach to design.
The purpose of this methodology is to encourage sensitive, generous architecture which gives back to the community. The acts as an important prompt for clients and the design team at all stages to review the actions being taken to deliver a project as sustainably as possible. This methodology should be reviewed at all RIBA stages; from development of the brief, siting of the proposal, to the operation of the site during construction and the use over time.
